Assisi, Perugia, Passignano sul Trasimeno

A more relaxing weekend around small towns in Umbria.

We took our giant pink bus to Assisi where Marco took us on the grand tour of the Church of Saint Francis. This church is quite the complex and consists of three churches, one on top of the other. Beautiful frescoes along the walls. And the burial tomb of St Francis himself.

And then Marco showed us around his stomping grounds (this is his hometown and current residence). It was so fun to see him chattin it up with all his good time buddies that we ran into around town. For the most part, the town was pretty dead. I guess the church is the only thing that really brings anyone in, and the rich people have houses here but only live in them as vacation homes.

We hiked up to the Medieval Castle Rocca Maggiore. Great views, cool to see, but they cheesed it up inside with exhibits of reenactments and costume displays.

Double KSU at the castle!

And then we took a train to Perugia. We walked around a bit and then had a crazy night at a discoteca (a club). Good college party town and an interesting night... we'll leave it at that

The next day we took a train to a town on a lake. I wasn't even sure where we were going or the name of the town until we left. But we had a relaxing time at the lakeside sunbathing.

And then of course, what would a weekend be without a good hike!? so we hiked up to some hill overlooking the lake.

We ended up getting a little lost and had to stop a car on the road to ask for directions to the train station. But  we were in a perfect location to watch the sun set over the lake.

And then we had to take two trains back to Orvieto. Had to transfer in Arezzo. We looked around there and thought it was a pretty sweet town so we'll have to go back.
